On our first lunch meet-up this semester, we not only had fun but also came expressed our thoughts about grad school, research and LIFE ! Each of us came up with a question worth discussing and tried to answer others' questions, too.
We talked about our hobbies and how we manage time for them. Also developing and maintaining a healthy food habit and sleeping schedule came up during the discussion. On a more professional side, we talked about how to create connection for career development and how to improve communication skill. along these line came the topic about how to maintain the balance 'between research and course works' and 'between professional life and personal life'. YES, we do have personal life ( despite being grad students ) and we do get frustrated sometimes, so eventually we also talked about how to overcome and deal with frustration. And do we see the Topic on the top ? 'Recharge' is the word.
Grace Hopper 2012 is right next door this year, it's in Baltimore, so hopefully we will have more participation this time and represent the women in our department.
Thanks for setting this up , Awalin!

Awalin - hi and thanks. I will be helping to organize a code-a-thon for Open Source Day as part of Grace Hopper 2012 and would love to have some volunteers from this group. If you code in Python/Web2Py that will be even better.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post prof. Louiqa, we can discuss this in our next meeting and also should create a detailed post on that. Getting people with python experience should be easy, this is one of my favourite language, too.
